Royal Wedding Fever

Where do I start?  Who am I trying to kid?  As if I'm not dying to launch straight into a mountain of confetti and make angels.  Firstly, who needs Skype when we have the great British Broadcasting Corporation beaming images around the globe so that we can watch in tandem and oh and ah together!  It was such fun watching with you and I don't know where I thought you where but after we discussed how long until the kiss and then put the phone down, I realised that when I said two hours to go, I was totally mistaken, I'd forgotten where you were speaking from and had totally disregarded the time difference!  Hope you didn't miss it with my dodgy information.

Mr Regular has just been taking the Mickey over what I may or may not be writing about today, he's male... he doesn't get it... which I pointed out.  Anyway, Kate, Catherine... The Duchess of Cambridge, as we know looked absolutely beautiful, regal and every inch our future Queen.  The array of ladies outfits were amazing, almost two thousand guests and I did not see two alike  which is some feat.

Stand outs for me were; Lady Sarah Chatto, (daughter of Princess Margaret,) I only saw a glimpse of the outfit but it looked to be very simple, slate grey and I'm pretty certain the name Jasper Conran was mentioned.  Victoria Beckham looked stunning in dark blue, simple and elegant, she actually wore one of her own creations from A/W11.  To be fair it may have seemed odd to wear someone else's designs but she looked wonderful and I think she deserves extra credit for being around five months pregnant.  VB's outfit was completed by a stunning Philip Treacy head dress which defied gravity and five inch heels... what else?  Her Majesty the Queen wore daffodil yellow in her usual style, it's as if the Queen wanted to project the joy she felt for the occasion, such a happy colour.  Tara Palmer Tomkinson choice of, a vibrant blue looked stunning and Mrs Middleton's ice blue Catherine Walker, I thought not only looked perfect, every inch the Mother of the Bride but was also a lovely nod to the Princess of Wales and one of her favourite designers.

That takes care of the good, as for the bad, it's got to be the Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.  Beatrice in Valentino would have got away with the iffy colour, (I think C called her Princess Peach?) had it not been for the hideous head dress, but Eugenie definitely got it wrong with Vivienne Westwood, the outfit itself may have looked fabulous on someone taller but it did nothing for the Princess, shame.

The ugly?  I hate to say this because I admire this Royal but Princess Anne looked like she was wearing curtains and I hated the hat/head dress.  As much as I love print, it never seems to photograph well, especially at weddings for some reason and I think a block colour, especially for a wedding, is a safer bet.

As for the men, it's an obvious choice but old "golden balls" did look especially dapper and debonair.  If I had to nit pick, I would have liked a closer shave but that didn't make him any less handsome.  He really does scrub up well.

I got so engrossed with the arrivals at the Abbey and the outfits at one point that I forgot the Royals hadn't even arrived yet!  I thought the whole wedding was wonderful and despite the 2000 strong congregation, it still seemed intimate.  I know that we all thought the 1981 wedding of the Prince of Wales to the then Lady Diana Spencer was an absolute fairytale, but we were all so much younger then and a lot more naive.  What the world witnessed yesterday, could not be faked.  We saw two young adults, very much in love, marrying because they want to spend the rest of their lives together, not because it was expected, not to secure lineage but because of what we all would hope for; love.

My favourite moment of the service was Kate standing at the entrance to the Abbey, pausing for a few moments for final words and dress adjustments before the first few bars of "I Was Glad" by Sir Charles Parry heralded Kate's arrival and accompanied her on her long walk to the beginnings of her new life.  I'm not ashamed to say it brought a tear to my eye.
