June 18th

In some respects, the week was long, yet, here we are again, happily oozing into another weekend, so, I suppose it wasn't too bad?

The last time I visited the doctors surgery for my persistent queasiness and legs that felt like I'd either just completed a marathon or received exceptionally bad news like Father Christmas was dead... or both.  Anyway, she diagnosed the usual 21st Century malaise and gave me a voucher for a relaxation download.  Ironically, I've been too tired by the time I got home from work to do mental exercises for the past few weeks but yesterday, I finished work a little early and had some time and inclination on my hands and so decided to give it a try.

I didn't even last one minute.  The woman's voice being piped to me through my earplugs was both infinitely irritating and annoying, any longer and I would have felt my blood pressure rising and so I have sacked the relaxation exercises.  Trouble is, I promised the doctor feedback so that she could pass on to other patients.  If I'm honest with the feedback, I'll just have to hope she isn't the woman speaking on the download!  I'm sure I have a CD somewhere with something similar except the non annoying voice is drowned by the noise of surf and crashing waves, (which I could listen to all day,) and the words weave their way into your brain subliminally.  This sounds to me like a much more acceptable option... this, and a really good laugh, if I can find one.

Can't remember where I'm up to on telling you about the job applications but I heard from one this week.  Good feedback but the summary included that I; "narrowly missed out on being selected for interview."  Would have saved me a fortune in fuel but never mind, I didn't want it anyway ;)

Thinking of applying for a job I saw advertised this week, not as close as the last one but nearer than where I am now.  The only thing with this one is you need to take a psych evaluation which the people in work are convinced I would not pass... and sign up for random and regular alcohol and drug testing!  What if I have a cold and my Day or Night Nurse shows up?  What if I have a glass of wine with a late dinner and that shows up?  I'll have to think about that one, it might make me a nervous wreck.

I have family visiting to do later this morning therefore, I have drenched myself in my calming Jo Malone... they really should provide it in industrial strength don't you think?  There is only so much lavender can do without a little help.

I've just been to purchase a friend's birthday present, she's travelling to Oz in August, (how jealous am I?) so I've picked up a few travel sized goodies for her to throw into her bag, plus a tiny bit of chocolate as she's a gym bunny.

Jogged for 45 minutes this morning and I did a couple of workouts earlier in the week on Monday and Tuesday and managed a few arm workouts too.  Really need to have another go of the Tracy Anderson butt and thigh workout, it won't get any easier if I don't do it!

My colleague that sits next to me did the "Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred" on Monday and could hardly walk for the remainder of the week.  Particularly funny were the getting up off the chair and sitting down moments.  I shouldn't have found it so funny but it really was and I'm sitting here laughing about it now.  (I know... people are probably staring.)  Still, she may have got her own back on me as I think I may have been enlisted in running a 5K for charity... that'll teach me.

Queen

As I told you last Sunday, I didn't have very much planned for the day.  A couple of weeks ago, I luckily caught part of an interview that Chris Evans did, (breakfast show BBC Radio 1,) with Roger Taylor and Brian May, they were discussing a new Queen documentary called, "Days of Our Lives".  So, recorded the documentary last Bank Holiday weekend and I watched it last Sunday.  It was brilliant.  Queen were a bit before my time but I love the music and was really sad when Freddie died.  Freddie was a genius and the music is timeless.  I'm a sucker for any "behind the scenes" stuff so this was pure magic, I highly recommend it.

They covered the classics, "Bohemian Rhapsody", yes, it's the first music video I remember, everyone was against the song apparently due to the length, all the record company execs thought it was ridiculously long, but Kenny Everett stole a copy and played it on his radio show fourteen times over one weekend, it went on to be a huge hit.  "Somebody to Love", absolutely brilliant harmonies, "We Are the Champions", still used today... all the time.

Brian May spoke of how his Dad had thought he'd wasted his education and was so against his choices, then, after witnessing Queen play Madison Square Garden in New York, his Dad realised he'd made the right decision.

All four band band members contributed major hits which I didn't know and I think is amazing, all four talents coming together like that to create musical history, who says there is no such thing as fate?

They covered Live Aid were they were pretty much ordered by Bob Geldof to reform for the occasion and they stole the show, I remember watching it from a tiny TV in a caravan in Wales and yes, they totally stole the show.

It was absolutely fascinating and a really great watch.  Catch it if you get the chance.

Jo Malone = Bliss

Hello again Sweet, I think I told most things in our chat this morning but there may be a few things I've missed, so here goes!  The meeting with the Uni people went well and they generously spent 40 minutes with me, it was useful and definitely gave me a lot to think about.  The main thing I took from the meeting was that I need to research what career/job I'm actually aiming for in the long run.  Out of the two women that I spoke to, the woman I spent the most time with kept going over the negatives and I started to wonder if she doubted my ability to proceed on this adventure.  Having said that, I may have been projecting my own doubts onto her, maybe she was just testing my commitment and making sure I knew it was going to be a bit of a slog.  It was great to speak to people face to face and really helped clarify things in my own mind.

So, the important bit done, I picked up a few birthday cards and a few essentials, (lip balm,) stopped to listen and watch a deaf choir, (I hope that's the right terminology,) they signed to Westlife's version of "The Rose," and it was lovely to watch.  I contributed to their bucket then went into Paperchase to purchase my favourite writing utensil, I like to have a good few knocking around here but they didn't have any!  What if they've stopped making them?  What am I going to write to you with?  I may have go stop writing.  Yeah right.

So, after my Paperchase trauma, I headed for Jo Malone, I'd found some vouchers and left over birthday money from last year and so decided to treat myself to what, quite frankly, is another essential if I want to retain my remaining marbles.  I slipped in to buy my favourite Amber and Lavender and was asked if I'd like a complimentary hand and arm massage!  This is like being asked if you'd like a million pounds, you're not going to say "no thank you," to either.  I had a lovely hand and arm massage by an impossibly smiley and enthusiastic but lovely assistant and she used Amber and Lavender and some kind of Blossom fragrance, it was divine.  I emerged smelling like pears, the fruit not the soap, although I do like the soap, reminds me of when I was very little.  And so I've spritzed this morning and I'm wafting around in a cloud of amber and lavender, (and egg and bacon panini as someone here has just ordered this.)  I wish you could smell me!  The lavender is just gorgeous, it feels fresh and clean and calm and the amber I think is a bit masculine and just gorgeous.

Did you listen to Rufus yet?  Not exactly a feel good song but so passionate!  Can you imagine being able to put your feelings into words like that?  If only.

I woke a few times in the night but still slept pretty well.  Jogged comfortably for 40 minutes and then it's arms and plies this afternoon, oh and I found some fake tan and applied it to my cheeks and bridge of my nose in the hope of looking, "sun kissed."  I know I should embrace the pastiness but I found a photo of me from a few years ago and couldn't work out why I looked well, it was because I had a bit of colour!  I applied just before you rang and by the time we'd finished chatting, I'd developed.

After the bright start to the day, it's now raining again.  I'm in jeans, boots, teal jacket and skinny scarf, (with silver balls, I need to photograph this stuff don't I so that you know what I'm talking about,) plus of course, Pandora, Jo Malone and Swarovski.

Thanks for test driving the new settings for mobile devices for me!  So glad I didn't break anything.

I know that I've told you before but I'll keep reminding you until you tell me you're using it so you may as well give in now.  I can't say enough good things about the Aussie hair range, you need to use this!  Your hair will thank you for it and you can thank me later.  Love you x

Dinner at 8

As you might have expected, I did in fact get lost driving home after my trip but I did stumble upon a gem in the process.

I was listening to Graham Norton's Saturday radio show, (he's so funny,) and his guest chose a Rufus Wainwright song to be played.  The story goes the Rufus' Dad left the family home when Rufus was a boy and the relationship had been somewhat strained ever since.  The grown up Rufus, now a successful singer/songwriter in his own right had given an interview to Rolling Stone magazine in which he had a dig at his Dad.  Rufus duly pointed the interview out to Dad one night at dinner and a huge bust up ensued.  Rufus wrote, "Dinner at 8" in response to the fallout.

I thought it was an amazing piece.  I swiftly turned to my trusted YouTube but sadly, the only options available are pretty grainy.  Keane did a version which is great but didn't have the passion of Mr W so, here, for you and anyone who wants to partake in a passionate masterpiece is Mr Rufus Wainright's; "Dinner at 8."  I'm adding the lyrics due to the graininess of the recording.  Hope you enjoy.

No matter how strong
I'm gonna take you down
With one little stone
I'm gonna break you down
And see what you're worth
What you're really worth to me

Dinner at eight was okay
Before the toast full of gleams
It was great until those old magazines
Got us started up again
Actually it was probably me again

Why is it so
That I've always been the one who must go
That I've always been the one told to flee
When it fact you were the one long ago
Actually in the drifting white snow
You left me

So put up your fists and I'll put up mine
No running away from the scene of the crime
God's chosen a place
Somewhere near the end of the world
Somewhere near the end of our lives

But 'til then no, Daddy, don't be surprised
If I wanna see the tears in your eyes
Then I know it had to be long ago
Actually in the drifting white snow
You loved me

No matter how strong
I'm gonna take you down
With one little stone
I'm gonna break you down
And see what you're worth
What you're really worth to me

The Walled City

I'm writing to you from a different Starbucks today, it's been a while since I've visited this one and it's looking good, it's had a face lift and yes, the coffee is good too.  I have somehow made my way to the Walled City, not to be mistaken for the Emerald City although I am hoping to find some answers here too.  I'm here to go to the University event which will hopefully give me some information  to help me make the right choices.  I've made it here by some kind of minor miracle, there have been extensive road and route re-modelling since I was last here, you wouldn't believe how much the landscape has changed, I can't believe I found my way without Sat Nav, of course, getting home may be another story altogether.

My short walk on arrival was illuminated by a positive vocal battle between buskers with an amp and the preacher yelling that we're all going to hell in a handcart, I have to say, the buskers won by a whisker but I'm sure the preacher won't be put off and will give it another go in a short while... for fear of going to hell in a handcart.

I slept great last night which is more than can be said for the rest of the week, it's amazing how much better you feel after a good night's sleep!  My alarm woke me early but I was raring to go and didn't have to drag myself out of bed.  I feel like the fitness has been going in reverse lately so I decided to  re-jig the playlist last night and I gently jogged for 45 minutes this morning, mostly to Mr Blunt and Ben's Brother.  I'm aiming for a slower pace but for a longer period of time, at least until I build up some stamina again.  I'm still the plie Queen though, I've been doing those nightly and also throw in some arms when I have enough energy to lift my water bottles which I use for weights, (they're heavier than my actual weights.)

Did I tell you that lots of people in work have been following a particular diet in work?  They've been hugely successful, quite a few of them have lost around 19, 20kgs, so, for the past week, I've given it a whirl, partly to get me eating more healthily and partly to lose weight.  I'm 7 days in and so far, there is almost a 1kg difference on the scales.  That's 1kg up!  I've said it before, this three meals a day thing just doesn't work for me, still, I do feel better for the influx of veggies and fruit into my diet but don't know how much longer I'll keep at it for, if it carries on like this, I won't be able to fit through a door.

I'm wearing a sleeveless, wrap around top this morning but without the pin I usually wear to secure the front, I'm seriously in danger of pulling a Judy Finnigan before I get home so I have to keep checking and fixing as I go.

I've just navigated my way through a throng of Japanese tourists all excitedly photographing the black and white, Tudor architecture and posing on the cobbles to capture the moment.  It's great to see people visiting and having such a lovely time.

Spoke to J on Thursday and she told me her and hubby were heading to Cornwall for either a long weekend or possibly the week if the cottage is free.  L&F just returned from Derbyshire yesterday, I love Derbyshire and may have to watch Pride and Prejudice this afternoon, (the Keira version,) for a glimpse.

Been catching Surf Patrol most nights this week, no idea which season I'm watching but the creepy narrator has been replaced by a much less scary one... phew, at least I don't feel like I'm sitting through a horror movie now.

5th June

I do love our Sunday catch ups, it always gets my day off to a happy start!  Before you rang, I watched the Blissology man while I had my breakfast and checked emails, no idea what he was saying as the sound was down as I multi-tasked but he was sat on a hilltop beneath a beautiful blue sky with waves rolling in behind him.  It looked divine.

No workout for me this morning, (except for plies,) with the housework and gardening of yesterday, I felt wiped out this morning and so once I managed to talk myself out of bed, I opted for a lovely and leisurely start to the day, topped off with you... perfect.

We have a winner of BGT!  Results were announced in reverse order from 10 - 1.  The top four were absolutely right and the great British public got it right once again.  It turned out that there was a mere  2.5% difference in the votes for first and second place!

The winner, an unassuming Scotsman by the name of Jai McDowall took the grand prize and the honour of performing at this years Royal Variety Show in front of Her Majesty.  His voice needs a little polish but I can see him having a long career... especially in musical theatre.  Runner up was my favourite, Ronan Parke, the little 12 year old boy with the big voice.  I'm absolutely positive that both young men have amazing opportunities just waiting for them.  I'll post links at the bottom of this should you wish to indulge.  Also going to include a clip from Razy's semi final performance.  I thought his semi performance was better than his final performance, this man does things I've never seen before unless it was computer generated!  I'll also put a link to one of the guest performers, a little girl called Jackie Evancho who was runner up on the first America's Got Talent series.  I couldn't take my eyes and ears off her.  This little girl who thankfully they're allowing to look and dress like a little girl and not make her grow up too quickly, does have a very grown up voice.  In a few short years she'll be giving Katherine Jenkins a run for her money... just mesmerising.

Sad to see Ant and Dec leave our screens again but it'll only be for a short while, I do love those too and I'll miss them saying; "Royal Variety Charity," in those Geordie tones!  So cute.

I spoke too soon yesterday, it's cool and rainy again today and the boots, jacket and hat are back on!  I'm not at all jealous of your 21 degrees!

I have a few long days of training this week in work, sooooo looking forward to that, and next Saturday, I'll be writing to you from England's Walled City when I visit to gather university information.  Until then...love you x

Finally

Finally, summer appears to have arrived!  Yesterday was a glorious day, 25 degrees and blue skies, just gorgeous, so you can imagine how elated everyone was to be in work.  We had a big move around yesterday and  I moved my belongings to my new desk and my new team.  I had to fumigate the desk, not sure when it was last cleaned but at least I think the latest E.coli outbreak didn't originate from German salad but from my new desk.  I'll clean it again on Monday, just to be safe.  I struggled for ages to move a box file which was jammed between the legs of the desk, it was dark under there so I didn't realise that the box file was holding the desk up.  The desk tilts to the left but the good news is that my screen also tilts to the left.  I'll only be there for 8 weeks, then we move to the new building so I can cope until then, but, if the next time I see you I'm holding my head to the left, you'll know why.

I was under orders to call in at church yesterday on my way home to collect home made fish pie from B.  As soon as I saw her, I knew something was wrong, she'd fallen in the  kitchen and banged her head, hip and grazed both knees, went down like a ton of bricks by the sounds of it.  The head thing was more worrying as she's on anticoagulants.  I told her if she didn't feel well later on to call one of us.  The bag containing the fish pie was suspiciously heavy and when I got home and unpacked, there was a bottle of wine inside!  I'm so spoiled.  Both were delicious by the way... not the entire bottle by the way.

Dragged myself out of bed this morning, jogged for 30 minutes, (arms and plies to follow later,) did a wash load which is now wistfully blowing on the line.  I need to recycle, iron, vacuum with attachments, (I'm pulling a face now,) and cut the grass.

I nipped for some food shopping this morning and bumped into an old customer again.  We usually see each other on a Saturday morning, wave and exchange pleasantries but we stopped for a proper chat this morning.  He remembered my name and of course, I don't remember his due to dodgy memory syndrome, you'll have to get your thinking cap on, he was always lovely, he's tall, softly spoken, usually wifeless and he's well in his 70's now, I think his surname begins with "M."  He said he hardly ever goes in now and misses, "the old days!"  That's us by the way, I thought that was really sweet.

It's the final of Britain's Got Talent tonight, it hasn't been as good this year, after a week of semi finals, they probably could have put the good ones into just one semi final.  Some of the acts are frankly embarrassing.  Is this really the best we could get?

With the absence of Bondi Rescue from CBS reality, I've been giving Surf Patrol a whirl. It's not BR but it still illustrates what an amazing job these blokes do on a daily basis. I do have one tiny observation though, the voice over man sounds slightly, (by that I mean, a lot,) creepy.  He wouldn't sound out of place doing voice overs for the Scream franchise should they choose to make a Scream 5.

My running after work drought is over, for now at least. My first day back at work this week was Wednesday, I only managed a rather feeble 10 minutes when I got home, but it was a start.

SJP was snapped wearing H&M sandals this week, what's the betting they are sold out by now?

Well, can't put it off any longer, chores in sweltering heat await me... oh joy.
