Glastonbury Magic

I thoroughly enjoyed the match yesterday.  Firstly, the commentators, apart from our own Sue Barker, we had Mr John McEnroe, the enfant terrible, the rebel with a cause is actually, whether he wants to be or not, now part of the establishment and as much Wimbledon as strawberries and cream, it was great to see him and to hear that familiar voice.

Fedora v Tsonga was a great match.  Sorry to see Roger depart before the semi's, before the final even, but well done to the excitable and exuberant Jo Wilfred Tsonga and his happy dance when he got through!

Andy Murray positively cruised into the semi's, come on Andy!

I heard on the radio this week that a librarian about to turn 60, had created a bucket list with 60 do-able things on the list.  I haven't reviewed my list for a while but not even sure I have six things on it.  I obviously need to give this some more thought.  Feel free to send me suggestions!

I watched the first episode of the new, highly rated mini series; "Mildred Pierce." As to be expected with Kate Winslet in the cast, this is a classy and mesmerising drama. The story of a single Mother, doing what she has to, to make ends meet and keep the family going. The first episode is a taster as expected, but I will be watching the remainder of the series, can't wait to see what's coming for Mildred.   Definitely one to look out for madam!

Thought you might enjoy some Coldplay/Glasto magic...

Every Teardrop http://youtu.be/Boo1M0EIGww   Look out for Gwynnie and Beyonce at the end!

And especially for our darling Drama Queen in the making, Jessie J at Glastonbury with some help from a little girl called Shay; http://youtu.be/fAHTrNi1T7Y  enjoy x

Yes, it's Wednesday

As you can probably tell, I'm off today and actually, I'm off for the rest of the week.  This is coming off my main summer holidays so I don't feel too guilty.  Glad to be off for a few days, I've had a bit of a sore throat since the weekend and felt a bit funny after working out this morning so good to be able to do just what I feel like today!

According to the fabulous Sally Brompton; "Cosmic activity in the most sensitive area of your chart, (my chart,) means you won't be able to hide your emotions this week. And why would you want to? There is nothing wrong with showing your feelings -- and everything right."

The problem with that is, I'm more of the; "play your cards close to you chest" kind of Leo. This could be interesting.

Going to take advantage of being off this afternoon and watch Andy Murray in his latest Wimbledon round.  Of course I'm cheering Andy on but while I'm watching, I can also see what all the fuss is about  his opponent Mr Lopez.  Even AM's Mum has admitted to having a crush on Mr Lopez so it would be rude not, to don't you think?

George Clooney hasn't even uttered the second syllable of  the word; "single" yet and he's already been linked with Sandra Bullock.  Now that would be one cute couple.

I have almost filled another journal writing to you and so I went on a hunt last night for an empty or part filled book to take over until I can pay a visit to Paperchase to restock.  I came across my smaller, jade coloured, leather bound journal that I bought for my NZ trip. I had big ideas of capturing every travelling moment but I obviously either didn't pack my writing mojo or I was having too good a time even think about picking up a pen and so ... it's largely empty.

Still, there is a little writing and I thought you might enjoy an extract.

Not a bit organised this morning, not off that treadmill as much as I would have hoped but plenty of time yet.  Travelling MAN - LHR - LAX - AUCKLAND.  Flying to LHR, I picture that scene from "The Twilight Zone", pretty sure John Lithgow starred, the one with the gremlin yanking the plane engine off mid-flight?  Then, I buy water at LHR, just after your text to say; "try not to sit next to a crazy person," (you know me so well,) and I'm thinking of the "CSI" episode were bottles of water have been poisoned.  Then, I take the bus to transfer terminals at LHR and I'm imagining that scene in "Speed" were the hostage on the bus says; "but I've already seen the airport."

Coming into land at Auckland, I saw the most beautiful sunrise I have ever seen.  At home, it's almost pink, here, it's a rich and vibrant orange that faded into the most perfect blue sky.  The expanse of water beneath was amazing and the cloud formation almost appeared as if ice sculptures floating above the water.  It felt nearer to heaven somehow.  As we came into land, the sky turned to a deep pink, almost red with dark grey clouds - just beautiful.

June 26th

Hello Again!  Prior to our chat, I  had jogged for 35 minutes, showered and breakfasted, so all in all, off to a pretty great start.  We're currently at 16 degrees, (I checked,) and we should expect, apparently, 26 degrees later on!  I won't hold my breath but the P20 is on standby... just in case.

Had a fab time at lunch yesterday with my cousins.  The meal was good and the company excellent.  It was great to catch up and they all looked incredibly happy and settled, not to mention excited about the imminent arrival of bub.  It was lovely.

My university prospectus arrived yesterday, in a matter of weeks, I could be signed up and setting out on a new, (and time consuming,) adventure.  If all goes to plan and I can manage it, I've more or less settled on the psychology degree, let's face it, Nina isn't the only one with, "more baggage than a Quantas flight," so, I think it will be not only educational but something of a voyage of discovery.  Even if it doesn't lead me anywhere career wise, education is never wasted.

So, did you hear that Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig have tied the knot?  I think it's so romantic!  They haven't been together for that long so they must just know it's right.  Love them both as actors.

I had no food in the house yesterday evening.  I'm being overly dramatic, what I actually mean is that I had nothing in that I fancied.  After feeling miserable for a few hours, I was getting peckish around 8pm and decided that I would probably perish in my sleep if I didn't find something, so I went digging in the freezer and unearthed one third of a rock solid loaf, a few slices of which I later turned into toast.  What I actually wanted was a glass of wine and a packet of crisps, the toast just didn't cut the mustard.

As we were saying... it struck me a couple of weeks ago that I miss having someone from an older generation in my life.  I miss old people!  Every few weeks I think I'll call Auntie Beryl... my last "adopted" aunt, only to remember that she's not with us anymore.  One of my favourite parts of our old haunt was... time permitting, getting to chat to customers of a certain age in between serving them.  You're right, they do have fabulous stories and if you ever feel like you pretty much know all you need to know, they go and tell you something important, interesting or both, that you didn't already know.  I have heard some incredible, funny and heroic stories from people of a certain age.  Shouldn't we be recording these stories somewhere?  The older generation also remind us of some basic graces in such a busy world; how to give of yourself, how to have patience, how to listen and have a warm and ready smile.

I've decided to show the world I have a waist today.  Don't worry, I'm not wearing anything midriff baring, I am however wearing a wide belt, cinched in, plus... it makes you breath in.  Also on today's outing are my koru earrings, (that's what they remind me of and if I call them that, you'll know what I mean,) Pandora and jeans.  This reminds me actually that I really need to try to summon the patience and gumption to fight with the slide show.  I have tons I want to add to it but it's so complicated, you need the patience of a saint, of which I am not.

On the agenda at some point today is "Mildred Pierce."  It's the new and much hyped mini series starring Kate Winslet.  I'll watch the first episode and let you know if it's something you need to look out for x

Heatwave?

Total nightmare getting here this morning wasting precious petrol days before payday grrrrr.  All main routes to here were closed, diversion signs were a waste of time and diverted you back to the opposite end of the already closed road, so, 35 minutes later, I finally got here when it should have taken 14 minutes at worst.  Anyhoo, once I got here, I happily discovered that they now open at 9am on a Saturday so if I'm up and out early, I can come straight here, write, do a little people watching and eavesdropping in on conversations... but don't tell anyone.

Read two pieces of news this morning, Peter Falk has sadly passed away.  The iconic and slightly crumpled figure of Columbo with his scruffy raincoat and big cigar has been on our TV screens forever and will no doubt continue to pop up with comforting regularity.  J says Columbo is the only murder mystery she can follow as they show you who did it at the start.  I also loved him as the Grandpa in "The Princess Bride,"  who wouldn't want him reading you a story when you're sick?

Secondly, some parts of the country are in for a heatwave this weekend.  Judging by the distinct nip in the air, the angry grey clouds over head and the need for head lights on the drive here, I think it's safe to say it won't be this particular part of the country.

Did a massive, (well, only 6 minutes but it felt massive,) arm workout last night but everything is in good working order today.  Also did some lovely saddlebag moves, (to get rid of them not get some,) this part of my anatomy is not in such great working order though and I can definitely feel it today.

I'm meeting three of my cousin's for lunch today.  I haven't seen them for almost 12 months so I can't wait to catch up in person and one of them if very pregnant with only 4 or 5 weeks to go so can't wait to see her before bub arrives!

Is FB o-v-a-h?  According to Grazia magazine, over 100,000 deactivated their accounts last month alone.  It may be because I'm a bit of a technophobe but FB does creep me out a little and I may well be in the next 100,000 wave to pull the plug.

Guess what popped into my inbox yesterday?  My first; "book your Christmas party now!" email.  Do you think they know it's only June?  I guess business is business and if I was in charge of bookings, I'd be beating the drum now too.  Who knows where I'll be by Christmas, hopefully a travel writer, blogging from warmer climes perhaps?

Easy Breezy

It's Friday and quite bizarrely, I feel like I'm on holiday!  Which of course, technically I am as I'm not in work but you know what I mean.  I strongly feel that Monday's should be banned, or at least Monday's in work should be banned.  Everyone should be given Monday's off but without a reduction in pay.  I hate Monday's with a passion, so, as I sat there last Monday, at my desk, with the week stretching before me, I couldn't face the five whole days reaching out before I could escape from that place once more and so I booked today off!  Don't get me wrong, I have to pay the time back but it's psychological, it's Friday and I'm on holiday!

I've got into a horrible pattern of broken sleep when I have work the next day.  I wake 4 - 6 times every night, usually after dreaming that my alarm is going off, imagine doing this 6 times before your alarm actually goes off... it's like groundhog day.  I've monitored this for the past three weeks and I sleep just fine when I don't have work the following day so I'm obviously allergic to my current job.  I had a gorgeous 10 whole hours last night which surely illustrates my point?

I've really cranked up the water consumption this week.  I've been taking a 2 litre bottle of fizzy water to work with me for most of the week and the top two thirds of my face look tons better already!  Skin is clearer, plumper and brighter.  Not bad for just a few days and hopefully, the last third will follow suit pretty sharpish.  Of course the only drawback is that you need to spend a penny much more often.  The team that has the dubious honour of being situated near the restrooms must think I have a bladder the size of a raisin and I'm desperate to explain the increased water consumption to them.  For the time being, they'll just have to talk about me... they shouldn't be counting anyway.

I was walking through a corridor on Wednesday with a colleague when she asked if another person should be with us, I looked back to see if the other person was following and promptly walked into a pillar!  (This is the pillar that I've walked past successfully for the past four years.)  Luckily, I only hurt my arm and I now have a ping pong ball sized bump and a complimentary bruise.  Isn't watching where you're walking something we learn as kids?  I was obviously over due for a reminder.

I watched "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" this week, and I forgot how good it was.  90 minutes of lovely escapism and I really enjoyed it.  I'm toying with the idea of going to see "Bridesmaids."  I haven't read any reviews yet, it sounds like it should be good and it's written by a woman rather than a man trying to think like a woman, but I hope it's not trying to be a female version of "The Hangover" as that just wouldn't work.

I've just read about Carmen Dell'Orefice, at 80 years of age, this beautiful woman is still a working catwalk model!  Can you believe it?  She was blessed with great bone structure which is half the battle but it shows you that if you talk care of yourself, you can look good at any age!

Plies are completed nightly and are like a habit now, woo hoo!  Still doing the arms with my water bottles and although I say so myself, they're looking toned and as a bonus, the shoulders are not bad either.  I confess I didn't even watch the Tracy Anderson Butt and Thigh workout let alone completed it but... it is on the list for the weekend, possibly even this afternoon.

Caught a bit of "10 Years Younger US" again this morning.  They gave the victim fillers to add "youthful plumpness" to her cheekbones and to wipe out the laughter lines she had between nose and mouth.  At her big reveal, she still had huge lumps of filler situated on top of her cheekbones as they hadn't had time to spread out!  There is something to be said for water, salmon and good fats.  I think I'll take my chances on the latter but you know what?  Laughter lines show the world you like to laugh.

After the rain early this morning, we now have sunshine!  Jogged for 30 minutes this morning and it'll be arms and plies later.  Happy Friday to you although you may well be in bed now so Happy Saturday instead! x

Insane?

You are my best friend in the World and you tell me all kinds of important facts of life including what to do with an aubergine, how not to put "yellow" dusters in the washing machine with my regular washing and much more, so, I know you'll tell me if I'm nuts for vacuuming my mattress?  I flipped my mattress yesterday as back has been killing me, I've been meaning to do it for weeks but it's so heavy, anyway, I summoned the strength and after I'd flipped and as I was there, kneeling on it with the vacuum attachments fully loaded I did think; "hmmmm, would Col tell me I was insane?"  This is hypothetical by the way, I think I know the answer to this particular question.  You do know there will be more of this to come right?

June 19th

So, here we are, knee deep into another Sunday. Dark and blustery start to the day here and when we spoke, it looked like it was going to chuck it down... again.  Ah yes, British summer time at it's best.  You can tell me the truth... you miss it don't you?  It's the longest day here on Tuesday, (is it the longest day everywhere?) and then the nights start to draw in again, already!  Can you believe it?  I really like going to work in daylight, still, I have a good few months before it's totally pitch dark again on my drive in so I'll enjoy it while I can.

Jogged for 40 minutes this morning and then indulged in a breakfast of scrambled eggs on rustic wholemeal.  Well, I made the rustic part up, although my cutting technique, rough and artless, probably fits pretty well with the rustic theme.  Wouldn't normally have something so big to kick off the day but need to use up the eggs and they're chock full of good fats right?

Coffee is good this morning, the filter wasn't quite, well, filtered when I ordered so lovely barista who always remembers my order and how I like it, offers to bring it over when it's ready, (I don't know her name yet as she's new.)  She appears by my side a few short minutes later with my filter topped off with a little hot skimmed milk and tells me she tried to make the foamy part into a nice shape for me but it didn't quite come off.  (I quickly decided not to tell her about the fern shape that topped our coffees in NZ, instead,) I pointed out the stunning resemblance of my foam to a fluffy white cloud so, we're all good.

Actually feeling a bit tired this morning, which is weird as I slept great and the exercise should have me alive with endorphins, plus the eggs, I should be the epitome of well being today.

Watched the pilates/yoga channel this morning for a while then flipped over to "10 Years Younger US", the woman was given a makeover just in the nick of time but apart from the dire need for the makeover, she also seemed quite depressed so, I almost slid off the sofa when they said she was a comedian.  Comedians are allowed to have blue day's though and they did a good job of the makeover, I would still sack the stylist though.

Think I'm going to aim to fill at least one large bag for charity this afternoon.  I haven't done any de-cluttering for a few weeks and as I mentioned earlier, I really need to tackle the work pants situation.  I can't go on wearing the same, so-comfy-and-big-it-feels-and-looks-like-I'm-wearing-PJ's, that I wear all the time.

Wearing long sleeved T, gillet, jeans, Pandora, scarf today and now, the sun is trying to make a break for it and I wonder how long it'll be before the sun is engulfed in dense cloud again?  In the meantime, I'm quite happy to swelter!

Recycling beckons with the usual, "car wash lady?" thrown in my direction as I sort my plastics from my cardboard from my glass in the car park.

I did watch, "Murder by Death" yesterday.  If you're in the mood for something funny, totally ridiculous and ever so slightly non-politically correct, then you should look out for it, it's chock full of stars and it's just so wrong in every way, you can't imagine it being made these days so, a bit of a reluctant gem but I hope you catch it sometime.

The Glee series finale is on later, I've tried to resist but may have to watch for research purposes only ;)

Love you x
