As I told you last Sunday, I didn't have very much planned for the day. A couple of weeks ago, I luckily caught part of an interview that Chris Evans did, (breakfast show BBC Radio 1,) with Roger Taylor and Brian May, they were discussing a new Queen documentary called, "Days of Our Lives". So, recorded the documentary last Bank Holiday weekend and I watched it last Sunday. It was brilliant. Queen were a bit before my time but I love the music and was really sad when Freddie died. Freddie was a genius and the music is timeless. I'm a sucker for any "behind the scenes" stuff so this was pure magic, I highly recommend it.
They covered the classics, "Bohemian Rhapsody", yes, it's the first music video I remember, everyone was against the song apparently due to the length, all the record company execs thought it was ridiculously long, but Kenny Everett stole a copy and played it on his radio show fourteen times over one weekend, it went on to be a huge hit. "Somebody to Love", absolutely brilliant harmonies, "We Are the Champions", still used today... all the time.
Brian May spoke of how his Dad had thought he'd wasted his education and was so against his choices, then, after witnessing Queen play Madison Square Garden in New York, his Dad realised he'd made the right decision.
All four band band members contributed major hits which I didn't know and I think is amazing, all four talents coming together like that to create musical history, who says there is no such thing as fate?
They covered Live Aid were they were pretty much ordered by Bob Geldof to reform for the occasion and they stole the show, I remember watching it from a tiny TV in a caravan in Wales and yes, they totally stole the show.
It was absolutely fascinating and a really great watch. Catch it if you get the chance.
